dan_marino.jpgLook who’s trying to get closer to our fabulous Broward County schools. Dan Marino is trying to sell his Weston estate so that he can live closer to his kids’ schools in northern Broward County.

His Weston home is currently selling for $15.9 million and he plans to reduce the price to $14.5 million in order to get some traffic going through the estate. According to the article in the Sun-Sentinel, Dan Marino’s home in Weston is 20,000 square feet with a guest house and staff quarters. It has been on the market for 2 years and Dan Marino wants it to sell.   He has asked his realtor to get aggressive and get it sold.

Turns out, he also has a home in Parkland for sale as well.

We have talked about how to get your home to sell and the best ways to do it. Remember earlier this week, we talked about open houses? This situation with Dan Marino is paradoxical. One of the best reasons to host an open house is to drive traffic to your home. Another plus to having an open house is when you have a unique situation. Dan Marino has both. He has had his Weston estate on the market for 2 years and now wants to sell his home. An open house is the perfect idea for this situation. Also, he has a unique opportunity to showcase the special features in his home.

However, we also talked about reasons why you wouldn’t have an open house and once again, Dan Marino is the classic case. Could you imagine just how many things would have the opportunity to be stolen from an open house at the Dan Marino estate? People would be flocking to just tour the home and see what they might be able to keep as a souvenir. I am not saying that a bunch of thieves would be casing the Weston, Florida estate, but even well meaning people are tempted when it comes to famous people.

So the cons to me totally out way the pros of an open house for Dan Marino and I am positive that his realtor feels the same way. That is why reducing the price is the best way for Dan Marino to get more traffic and interest in his Weston estate.

So good luck, Dan, and we wish you the best in selling your home and enjoying Broward County. It’s the best place in town IMHO! After all, who wouldn’t want to live near the fabulous schools in Broward County?
