Condo Life - A perfect second home

Welcome back to our series on Condo Life. It’s one of my favorite things to do since I live in a condo myself. I wanted to talk today about how a second home is not so out of reach for most people and why a condo is the ideal second home in South Florida.

A second home usually signifies that you are rich or well off. That is not always true. There are many benefits to a second home that you might not think of that are above and beyond the normal. So let’s look at some of the usual reasons for a second home and then a few of the unusual. I like those myself.

The most common reasons for a condo as a second home are:

An investment
A vacation home
A place to pay off in order to retire to
A place to stay warm in the winter

The more unconventional reasons to buy a condo as a second home are a little more fun:

Make a little money by buying a condo here in Broward County to rent out for the summer season. You could theoretically make enough to pay the mortgage for the entire year.
Why live in the same place all the time? Find a condo near the beach and enjoy the summertime without having to throw your money away each year. You can invest it.
Go in with another couple to share the expenses if you think it would be too much. I have some friends that come down every other weekend to enjoy the beach but they only have to pay about half of the expenses since they share it with another couple.

The advantages to a condo that you will not find in any other second home are equally cool.

Security is the main reason to buy a condo as a second home. You have a secure place to come home to. Your second home is behind more than just a locked gate and no one has to know that you don’t live there full time by driving by your home and seeing the lights out. You can set lights and climate on a timer and no one will be the wiser.
You don’t have to worry about your yard going to pot when you aren’t there. It is taken care of by the home owners association.
You can have packages held for you if you want to ship things before you get there.
You know all your neighbors are looking out for your well being since what affects you affects them as well.

There are so many reasons why a condo is perfect for a second home that I sometimes wonder why more people don’t do it more often. The tax advantage alone helps you out most of the time. Let me introduce you to a whole new world in condo living. It is fun and beneficial as well as safe and secure. Just any old neighborhood can’t offer you that kind of peace of mind, but we can.
