Condo Life - Extra Storage Space

Welcome back to the latest series at Best Homes in Broward on condo life. Today I want to look at space. Life in a condo has it's pros and cons and it's your job to figure out if this is the life for you. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything but that is IMHO. So let's look at another are of condo life ... storage space.

Pros to extra storage space - It's that time of year again. It's time to take out the Christmas tree and get all those decorations out again. So go to your storage place (garage, attic, basement...) and start digging. I bet you will find some things there that you forgot you still had. While you are there, go ahead and schedule a time to go through all those old clothes you have been keeping just in case you can ever er loose the weight to fit into them again. Is that really your grandmother's old cedar chest? Bet you thought you sister had that and you have been mad at her for it for a while. These are common scenarios when you have a large are to store things. Large storage areas are a great thing to have so that you can keep and reuse things year after year. It is also a great place to recycle those toys for the kids. You know how that works. Only keep out a few toys and then when the kids get tired of those, bring out some new ones from the storage room. It's good to have that room if you need it.

Cons to extra storage space - How many times do you go to a friend's house and hear that they have to clean out the garage, basement, or attic this year? I hear it all the time. "I can't find ... I have got to clean out the basement/attic/garage". This is because when you have extra space you tend to use it. That is not always a bad thing. But when you don't have that huge area to use, you tend to be a little more wise with your storage options. Living in a condo usually does not afford you the luxury of having a huge space to store your pack rat items. Condos usually give you a storage room but the likelihood of that room being the size of a garage or attic is rare. This forces you to only keep the basics or get a storage unit off site that you have to travel to.

You have lots of aspects to think about when you are looking for a new home. Space is one of them so be thoughtful when deciding on what your new home will be like.
