Jan 25 Donald Trump fights the flag fines in Palm Beach

I find it totally ridiculous that Donald Trump, who owns the Mar-a-Lago Club here in Palm Beach, can’t think straight. Normally, I think he has a somewhat straight head on his shoulders. He has made his fortune by being smart and strategic. Recently, he has tangled with Rosie O’Donnell over a war of words and has defended Miss America, Tara Conner, over her drinking escapade in New York. So he has been no stranger to the news lately. However, I am totally shocked that he isn’t seeing the real picture when it comes to the whole flag flying issue. Here is the background. The town of Palm Beach has a flag code that says you can fly any American flag you want as long as it is no bigger than 4-by-6 ft and on a pole that is no higher than 42 ft. The law is very clear and it seems reasonable to me. Donald has the right to fly his American flag all he wants. The problem is that his flag measures 15-by-25 ft and is on an 80 ft tall pole. Common sense should follow the line of thinking that if you are a proud American, you will fly your flag AND follow the law. If you don’t like the law, fight to have it changed or pay the consequences. Donald says the Palm Beach fine is a restriction of his freedom of speech and that “a smaller flag and pole on Mar-A-Lago's property would be lost given its massive size, look silly instead of make a statement, and most importantly would fail to appropriately express the magnitude of Donald J. Trump's and the Club's members' patriotism,” according to Fox News. I can see his point but really! Is this the kind of dumb sounding publicity he wants? How about this, Donald? We all love the American flag just as you do and we are glad to see you respect it by having such a strong desire to display it as you do. Your pride in your country is honorable, but being a good citizen means more than just showing your respect for your country and it's symbols. It means following the law and being a good citizen or fighting to change the law and being a good example of how democracy works. Either way, you come off looking better than what you do now. Donald, you can afford to work on changing the law and accept the consequences that come along with bucking the system. So if you choose not to obey the law, pay the fine and abide by the judgment until you can get the law changed. That can only make you seem more American. Meta DataComment from: REBlogGirl [Visitor] Vigilante patriotism now? What next? The Donald is really fighting for ratings on his failing Apprentice anyway he can. First WWWF Rosie Smack Down, now Flag flying as a means of defiance... What won't this guy do for publicity? plam beach and its resorts look like eyesores anyways. this flag is the least of their worries. Comment from: Phil Haming [Visitor] If Donald Trump wants to do something to promote the flag he should support the campaign to get the flag from the country of origin on every durable good sold in America. www.ionlybuyamerican.com Hey Chris: The day anyone (Trump included) needs to get a permit to fly the flag of this country is the day when tyranny has taken over. I hope Trumps sues the crap out of Palm Beach. He'll give the proceeds to the troops and thier families anyway. Go Trump!!! What right does the city of palm beach have to determine what size of American flag can be flown? I have to wonder do they interfer with foreign flags being flown? I fly not only the flag of United States, but also the United States marine Corps flag, God help the person or governing body that tells me I can't, I will go to jail and they will bury some people!!!!!! Comment from: United States Marine [Visitor] Does palm beach confine what flags can be flown? Who are they to determine the size of an American Flag? I fly the AMERICAN FLAG & A UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS FLAG, god help the person or government entity which try's to take it down, I will go to jail and they will go to their grave. The fact is Mr Trump violated a city ordinance. Grow up Mr Trump and remember wealth does not equate to the right to violate laws. The letter of the law states a mandated size of flag and pole - do it properly - if you want it changed do something about it through legal channels. Keep fighting Mr. Trump That flag stands for fredom and liberty. I was in W. Palm Beach recently. I've seen his house. He's not there in the summer. That home of his would house the whole homeless population of Springfield Illinois. Why does he need so many homes and why so darned big??? That one home is bigger than the Governors' mansion in Illinois. And why can't he follow the law like the rest of the poor citizens do?? Does he feel he's too rich to abideby our laws? Evidently so.
