Fort Lauderdale loves to celebrate any holiday and Halloween is no exception.  There are all kinds of Halloween activities to participate in this week and next.  But do you really want to decorate your home with ghouls and goblins when you are trying to sell it?  Who says you can't decorate your home for the current holiday season, Halloween, just because you have it on the market?  We have talked about staging your home for the season to invite someone into your home.  Having some decorations out and placed strategically keeps your home current and up to date.  The trick is the season.

Here are some personal suggestions on my part to make your home more inviting this holiday season:

Great Halloween home staging ideas:

  • Place fall pumpkins and mums on your front porch
  • Put carved pumpkins on the table and on your mantle
  • Just keep in mind that the decorations you select shouldn't be scary
  • A cute scarecrow sitting on a hay bale works well

Halloween ideas to avoid when trying to sell your home:

  • Most people won't want to look at your home if you have witches and ghouls hanging around everywhere
  • Be careful how much "spiderweb" material you use.  This should be limited to minor displays.
  • Those big displays that are blown up and make noise might turn off someone from wanting to see your home as well.

These are just suggestions and not set in stone.  It is up to you as to how you stage your home.  I, too, love decorating for just about any holiday but selling your home is what I do best and these seem to be the biggest turn-ons and turn-offs that I have found.  So take some time to decorate your home for the fall holiday.  Lots of rich, fall colors and those great pumpkin smells are a great plus when someone walks into your home

Talk to you later,

Christine
