Every once in a while a human interest story reminds me of why I am a realtor and love what I do. As I have said before, I love what I do and want to serve you to the best of my ability here in Broward County. If you have an issue that needs to be remedied, I can help. I have people willing and waiting to pay cash for homes to keep them out of foreclosure and I will market your home to sell while getting you the best price you can get if you need to get out in a hurry.

South Florida is famous for being part of the greatest, most friendly retirement community around. So when I ran across this sad story about a set of grandparents who have been gracious enough to take in their granddaughter due to their daughter’s drug habit, I was so proud of them I couldn’t stand it. Jimmy and Jodie Stottler of Largo, Florida took in their granddaughter, Kimberly, in 2005. That is what family is all about. Hopefully the daughter will be able to get cleaned up and enjoy her daughter before the little girl is old enough to know what is going on.

But then I read the rest of the story and just wanted to help them out. Turns out, the retirement community they live in doesn’t allow any permanent residents under the age of 18. The Stottlers understood this and agreed to comply by October of last year. The biggest problem was that their first hope was for Kimberly to go back to her mother. That has not been able to happen. Next they said that they would sell their home in order to comply. They live on a fixed income as most retirees do and must sell their home before purchasing a new home that will allow them to keep their granddaughter. Unfortunately, there have been no one interested in buying their home priced at $189,000. They lowered the price $10,000 and still no takers.

Hopefully they will be able to sell their home quickly now that their situation has made news and will be able to move to a more understanding neighborhood. I feel so sorry for the Stottlers because I know how they must feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. It is people and situations like this that make me want to sell homes. I hope they have luck soon and I am just sorry they don’t live closer or I would take their home and sell it myself! So good luck to the Stottlers and I am proud of them for helping their granddaughter, Kimberly.
