I found a great little article in the Sun Sentinel this morning about a movie by Catherine Gray titled Millionaires True Stories.  It's all about 5 local every day people in Fort Lauderdale and how they have amassed millions.  These people are regular Joe's just like you and me.  The only difference is that they are worth millions and we are not.  So let's take a look at who they are and hopefully you will go to see the movie at the Gateway Theatre on Saturday.

  • Donnie G Gentile of Fort Lauderdale- Decided to leave the restaurant business and learn the advertising business from the ground up.  He and a partner run AmeriMedia, a local advertising firm that handles advertising and promotions in the Caribbean.  He came to Fort Lauderdale in 1985 with $2000 and a car.  Now look at him.
  • Bill Becket of Fort Lauderdale - He started out in the jewelry business but bottomed out when the cost of gold went up.  He made his fortune with a chain of Chinese restaurants that TGIF bought out in 2001.
  • George Peters of West Boca Raton - He was abandoned in India as a child and came to America in 1947.  He sold Indian handcrafts and eventually opened up The Bombay Shop.  He reminds us all to plan for the future.
  • Don Gray of Highland Beach - He had the hard luck life story but overcame that in the military.  He went to architecture school and made his fortune building homes and apartments in Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The only woman in the movie was not listed in the article.  What a shame as I would have liked to have heard a little more about her.  Smart move on their part as now I really want to go see the movie.  You never know who you will meet just walking down the beautiful Fort Lauderdale beaches.  So come on down and walk the streets.  They are beautiful this time of year.

Talk to you later,

Christine
