Now that you have decided to look for a new home, what are you wanting to buy?  Have you outgrown your home and need more room? Want to pick another area to live in? Here are the top 5 things you might want to consider when house hunting.

  1. What size home do you need?  Do you need more room for a growing family or do you need to downsize. Be realistic as your home is your biggest investment. If you are downsizing, then make sure you have enough room for visiting family but you don’t really need all that entertaining room for pool tables and multiple entertainment centers. If you are still growing, then plan for your kids to have room to grow as well. A baby will need a place to play but when the child grows up. They will want to have friends over to hang out. Do you have enough room for all that?

  2. Does the home fit your style?  If you are laid back and don’t entertain much, then you probably don’t need a formal dining room as well as a huge kitchen. If you love the outdoors, make sure you have a Florida room or patio in your new home. You will wish you had it later. Are you getting older and need one floor living? All these things need to be taken into consideration.

  3. Have an issue with the neighborhood you are leaving?  Make sure your Realtor does extensive research into the type of neighborhood you would like to relocate to. Need a mall nearby to shop at or do you like to travel and want to be near highways that can get you where you want to go?  A good Realtor can find the perfect house in the perfect area for you so that you don’t have to move again in a few years.

  4. Are you a handy man/woman?  If you like fixing and mending things, then maybe you can get a home that needs a little TLC.  If you don’t want to hassle with doing any home maintenance, a condo might be for you.

  5. What will you bring to your new home?  Don’t make the biggest mistake of all time and buy a home that your current furniture won’t fit into. Make sure that what you will bring into the new home will look and feel great. There is nothing worse than getting your prized possession into your new home and it not fit where it needs to go. UUGGHH!!

Take the time to talk to your Realtor about your needs. Obviously, they have changed or you wouldn’t be in the market for a new home. Make sure the next house you get is the perfect match for you and your needs. There are so many beautiful homes in Broward County that you should never have to settle for one that will work. Keep looking until the one that is perfect bites you. .
