waterfront_living.jpgWelcome back to our waterfront series on the second Friday of each month.  We have looked at many areas of living near the water here in Fort Lauderdale and have covered several ways to prepare for hurricane season.  If you want to, check out our most popular articles on Hurricane preparedness 101 and 201.  I have really enjoyed this series simply because I love the water.  So talking about things near the water is just fun for me.  So today I want to say WHEW!  We made another year without a major hurricane in Florida and we can now take a breath with ease.

The 2007 hurricane has come and gone and we survived with no damage.  An average hurricane season has 11 named storms, 6 of those becoming hurricanes and 2 of those becoming major hurricanes.  This year we had a total of 14 named storms with 6 growing to hurricane strength and 2 becoming major hurricanes.  We saw no damage this year from a hurricane and that is great news.  Everyone remembers the devastation from Hurricane Katrina and we don't want to have a replay anywhere in the USA, especially here in Broward County.  So hats off to you, Mother Nature, for leaving us be this year.  Think you can do it again next year?  Some Floridians are still picking up from Wilma.

Talk to you later,

Christine
