keeping warm_1.jpgI hate getting up in the morning and having my feet cold for any reason.  Visiting with friends who have tile in their bathroom also reminds me that cold tile in the morning is no fun.  So with heating costs rising this year, I thought this would be a good time to go over a few ways to keep your home warm this winter.

  • Get your heating system checked out this year.  You might be loosing hundreds of $ from inefficient duct work.
  • Check your insulation and make sure it is up to code.  You want to make sure you have a good rated level of insulation.
  • Go outside and take a look around.  If you see any cracks on the outside, get them taken care of.  You can loose valuable heat from the tiniest of cracks.
  • Been up top lately?  Make sure your roof is in good shape.  Heat rises and you don't want to heat the entire neighborhood from your roof.
  • If you can, buy a few electric space heaters.  In the overall scheme of things, they are cheaper than heating your whole house.  If you are only in a certain area at one point in the day, then don't heat it all day long.  Be wise with your heat.
  • Close off the rooms you don't use.  This will keep you from wasting heat.
  • Switch the direction of your fans and use them.  If you have ceiling fans, switch the direction so that the air from above the fan is forced downward.  Like I said, heat rises so make it come back down.
  • Get your thermostats checked.  If they aren't working properly, then you can be wasting a lot more energy than you need to.
  • If you have hardwood floors, get some area rugs to cover up the cold floor for the winter.  You can put them away for the summer for a new look if you want to.

Just a few ideas to share to help you save money this winter on your heating bills.  Every little bit helps.

Talk to you later,

Kelly
